It's February 11th, 1996. John Travolta and Christian Slater top the box office with Broken Arrow. "One Sweet Day" is still dominant in the Billboard Hot 100. And in the WCW, it's been a manic two weeks since Clash of the Champions, and things are only getting wilder at Superbrawl 1996. Coming in from St. Petersberg Florida's Bayfront Arena with an attendance of 7,200. So, what's been going on since Clash of the Champions.
The issues between Hogan and Savage vs The Giant and Ric Flair haven't cooled off. In a match with Hogan on Nitro, Flair used the shoe of Miss Elizabeth to injure one of Hogan's eyes. He's also been focused on becoming WCW champion once again as he gets his rematch against Randy Savage inside a steel cage. Now flanked by Woman, and Miss Elizabeth's allegiances becoming suspect, it might seem that Savage is cornered in this situation. In another cage match, Hogan looks to finally rid himself of the big stinky Giant.
The other major angles on Nitro have involved Sting and Lex Luger as WCW World Tag Team Champions. Sting has tried to be the honorable champion, giving challengers fair opportunities, while Luger has been taking the cheap way out of their defenses, most recently in the pair's defense against the Road Warriors. Harlem Heat get their rematch on this show, but Hawk and Animal are still on the hunt for revenge.
The Four Horsemen and the Dungeon of Doom seem to have been on the same page for a while. The only problem has been one Brian Pillman. The Loose Cannon's insubordinate actions has caused a rift between stables. Intent on giving Pillman a taste of his own medicine "The Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan will face Pillman in a respect match where the winner is the one who can whip the respect out of their opponent with a leather strap. Also tonight, The Nasty Boys vs Public Enemy, another DDP/Johnny B. Badd match and Konnan vs the One Man Gang for the WCW U.S Title. Commentary tonight is Tony Schiavone, Dusty Rhodes and Bobby Heenan. Oh dear god, I'm already having Starrcade flashbacks.
Opening action is Public Enemy vs The Nasty Boys in a street fight. When these two brawled at the Clash of the Champions, tables were broken and tossed about. Brawl to start as you'd expect. Grunge and Rock throw Saggs and Knobbs outside. Grunge dives off the apron, but eats guardrail as Knobbs avoids. Rocco Rock gets a table and throws it at Saggs, who is ready with a chair to whallop him with. Grunge grabs the chair and smashes Saggs with the chair while Rocco Rock goes after Knobbs.
Clothesline up the aisle by Saggs to Johnny Grunge. Meanwhile Rocco Rock tries to set Knobbs on the table and dive off the apron, but Knobbs grabs him and throws him through the table. Cover, but Grunge breaks it with a chair. Saggs grabs a trash can and whallops Grunge with the lid, completely denting the hell out of it. Rock attacks Knobbs with a piece of the broken table. Saggs calls for a piledriver on the trash can and connects. Cover only gets the two as Grunge gets his foot on the rope. This match allows weapon shots, but you can still get DQ'ed on a rope hold? What?
Grunge smashes Saggs with the can lid while Rocco Rock takes Knobbs up the entrance way to the merchandise stand. Suplex through another table from Brian Knobbs. Knobbs lays in Rocco rock with a chair to the head and hits an elbow. Cover, but no ref. Grunge takes Saggs up to the area as the duo continue to smash in the Nastys with chairs and trash can lids. Bulldog into the chair by Grung to Saggs. Knobbs grabs the lid and smashes both Public Enemy members with it. Saggs sets up yet another table as there's more unprotected head shots with the chairs and the lids. Rocco Rock sets up the table yet again. Grunge sets Knobbs up as Rocco goes for the splash, but crashes through the table. Elbow with the table by Knobbs gets the win in this brawl. Yet the four of them still smash each other with weapons post-match.
Backstage with Mean Gene who shills the WCW Hotline about how two WWF stars may be on their way to WCW. This may be the first inklings to Hall and Nash who were already in negotiations. Gene is also taking to Konnan who looks like a puffy gold power ranger tonight. Konnan is the new United States Champ, recently beating One Man Gang. Tonight is the rematch. Pretty basic thanking the fans promo in both English and Spanish.
Up next, it's the Television Title, The Diamond Doll, and DDP's remaining 6 million dollars on the line. Diamond Dallas Page challenges Johnny B. Badd. Despite it not being featured in months, the feud between Page and Badd hasn't cooled off any time since.
Random shot of Linda Hogan, and I believe Brooke, in the crowd before the match is underway. She's sure popped up on TV more than I expected lately.
DDP comes to ringside with a bouquet of roses. To which I immediately remember him puling htis stunt months ago. But before we can tell if the roses are loaded, Badd attacks Page from behind as the two brawl outside to open the match. Page tries to whip Badd into the steel, but Badd reverses it. We get into the ring at last as Page gains control by clubbing Badd on the apron. Badd counters by flipping Page over the ropes to the outside. Schiavone thinks that may be grounds for disqualification, but technically this match never started yet.
Badd brings Page in and hits a slingshot leg drop. Cover only gets a two as things finally cool down and we start things proper. Page argues with Kimberly and jaw jacks the crowd. He begins to work Badd's arm and tries headlock takedowns, but Badd reverses everything. Badd tries a backslide, but only gets a two count. Thumb to the eye by Page who tries a suplex, but Badd rolls him up for two. Badd tries to work the shoulder, but Page breaks out. Page manages to stun gun Badd into the ropes. He continues to yell at Kimberly while he drops an elbow to the inner thigh of Badd.
Gutwench into a gut buster by Page. He returns to shouting at Kimberly to give him a ten card, but she declines. Badd gets a sunset flip, but Page punches him. Badd tries to flip, but Page punches again. Nonchalant cover by page gets turned into a cover by Badd for two. An angered Page slaps around Badd and yells at Kimberly some more. Badd reverses a whip and tries a hip toss, but Page counters with a DDT. Instead of covering Badd, Page is more focused on getting a ten from Kimberly. She gives him a Zero. She swats at him with the card as Badd rolls him up for two.
Page chokes at Badd, and covers for two. He goes into the chinlock, using the ropes to keep leverage. Badd breaks free, avoids a back suplex and rolls Page up again for two as Page sends Badd smacking face-first into the mat. Page keeps trying to cover him, but only gets a two. Leg trip by Badd who then comes back with some punches. He goes up and hits a double ax handle. Badd calls for the ten card, which Kimberly obliges. Badd teases a boot to the lower extremities, but hits an elbow instead.
Flying sunset flip by Badd only gets a two count. Sitout powerbomb by Badd still only gets two. Page manages to guillotine Badd on the ropes. Page tries to splash Badd in the corner, but Badd avoids, rolling Page up for two. Elbow to the face by Page. Cover using the ropes, but still just a two. Pancake from Page only gets a two still. Page goes in to the sleeper which gives us the arm drop spot. As you'd expect, on the third drop, Badd recovers with a jawbreaker. Sleeper from Badd, but Page gets Badd into the corner.Page tries a pancake, but Badd turns it into a Tombstone Piledriver for the win and the six million.
A good match between both men. Lots of near falls, and a lot less focus on big flashy spots since the stakes of this match were a lot higher than in previous Badd/Page encounters. I will say like a lot of their matches, it did feel a bit too long, plus maybe it's me, but a match that starts in a brawl turning into a more technical in-ring affair feels a bit silly to me. But it was still a fun sit, everyone played their roles perfectly, and in the end we get a good resolution to this months long feud. At least for this blog as this will be our last exposure to Johnny B. Badd. He won't appear on Nitro for the next month before he leaves WCW. But we aren't saying goodbye to him as he will be in WWF very soon.
Mean Gene is with Harlem Heat (sans Sherri), as we're set for the tag title rematch. Stevie says that Luger's committed grand larceny and tonight they're going to get him and Sting. When the night is over, Harlem Heat will still be the best team and will own the gold, sucka. Booker calls them college punks for taking them out with the silver dollars in Vegas. But tonight they refuse to leave without their tag title belts. On the topic of The Road Warriors, who get the title match later in the evening, Booker says that it's not 1976, it's 1996 and Harlem Heat is the better team.
It's tag team title time. Sting and Luger defending the WCW World Tag Team Titles against Harlem Heat in Harlem Heat's ordained rematch. Luger roams around ringside as we start as it sees that he's none too eager to get into this match. Sting tells him to get up to the apron as Sting and Booker T start the action. Booker takes Sting into the corner and lays in some strikes. Sting reverses a whip to the corner and lands a clothesline. He follows with a headlock takeover, but Booker grapevines the legs around Sting's head. Sting escapes as it's still evened up in terms of action.
Tag to Luger who brings Booker to the corner with some forearms. Hard whip to the buckle, but Booker comes back with a boot and some forearms of his own. Tag to Stevie Ray as they hit some elbows that send Luger tumbling outside of the ring. Luger chooses to not be so hasty to return to the ring, much to the annoyance of Sting. Luger quickly tags Sting back in, as the Stinger shakes his head. Stevie keeps Sting downed in the corner and lays in a cheap shot on Luger. Sting hits a hiptoss and a dropkick. Cover, but only one.
Thumb to the eye by Stevie Ray, who then tags in Booker. Headlock and shoulder block spot by Booker, but sting comes back with some boots and a bulldog. Tag to Luger who throws Booker to the corner and grinds his face on the rope. Knee lift and a cover by Luger for two. Back suplex by Luger and another corner for two. Big jumping elbow drop, but Booker escapes, and lands a sidewalk slam.
Elbow by Booker, but Luger escapes. Booker just spins out of it and hits a big kick to the face. Tag to Stevie Ray who hits a pair of big slams, then chokes Luger on the mat. Guillotine off the ropes by Booker followed by a leg drop from Stevie Ray. Clothesline and a cover for two. Tag to Booker who knees Luger into the corner. Hard whip to the buckle, but now it's Luger who gets the boot and a sloppy clothesline. Luger reaches for Sting, but Stevie Ray is tagged in, stopping the offense.
Sloppy powerbomb by Stevie Ray who covers for two. Stevie then follows with a nerve hold. After about a minute, Luger breaks free, but gets stopped in his tracks by Stevie. Tag to Booker who hits a scissor kick. Instead of a cover, Booker slowly picks up Luger and gets a cheap shot on Sting. Sting distracts the ref as Harlem Heat double team Luger. Luger gets a tag to Sting, but the ref still doesn't see it. Sting chooses instead to just pummel both Harlem Heat members. Stinger splash to Booker. Stevie sends Sting crashing to the floor.
While the ref is distracted, Hawk and Animal arrive. Animal hits Booker with a lead pipe. Luger covers and gets the win in what was honestly a really boring match. Sting looked good, Booker looked good. But it was a victim of very slow and bland "face in peril" stuff.
Mean Gene is with Sting and Luger. Luger is over the moon for still being hte world tag team champions. Okerlund tries to tell Sting about the interference, but Sting is too excited for his victory. Sting really is an idiot. We're not done with Sting and Luger tonight though as the Road Warriors await later in the evening.
Up next, the WCW United States Championship is on the line as Konnan defends against The One Man Gang. Gang had won the U.S title from Kensuke Sasaki in a Starrcade dark match, but had recently lost the title to Konnan. Clubbing blows by Gang early on to the back of Konnan. He stomps down on Konnan's head and continues the clubbering (a la Dusty). Sloppy roll away by Konnan who comes back with some kicks to take down the big man. Dropkick that sends Gang tumbling into the ropes. Konnan hits a cross body that causes both men to fall down the stairs. Flipping dive off the apron to Gang.
Konnan returns to the ring as Gang guillotines him on the rope. Gang follows with a weak looking kick and a leg drop. He chokes Konnan in the middle of the ring then taunts the crowd a bit. Konnan tries to fight back but the bigger man keeps him downed. Sidewalk Slam from the gang. Konnan eventually fights back with some punches to the head (or fistin him in the head as Dusty puts it), but Gang keeps him down. Some notable "boring" chants, which I agree with.
In fact the match has slowed so much that the cameras instead take a shot at WCW Motorsports Driver Steve Grissom in the crowd with his wonderful, wonderful chin. Gang coninues the clubbering on Konnan, grinding the eyes. Konnan tries to fight back, but Gang continues his damage. Konnan finally lands some fist strikes and follows with one of the worst hurricanranas I've ever seen. Konnan hits a few dropkicks, but misses one, allowing for Gang to regain control. Splash by Gang, who covers, but breaks the hold. Gang goes up to the second rope for a splash, but Konnan evades.
Konnan goes up, hits a roll and gets the win in a boring, sloppy match. I've seen some good "underdog" matches, but this was not one of them. Just dull offense from Gang, and Konnan did not look good with his faster offense. Just a mess.
Mean Gene shills the hotline yet again before he brings in his next guests, the Legion of Doom . Animal says that what happened earlier on Nitro was eye for an eye. He says their focus on Luger and Sting is making a big mistake in trusting the Total Package. They apologize to Harlem Heat... not! (via Hawk). Hawk promises to deviate Sting and Luger's septums, detatch their retinas, and a lot of other nasty things. They got in with the LOD, they don't know what they're doing.
Up next, it's the "Respect" Strap Match between Taskmaster and Brian Pillman. Essentially an "I Quit" match where someone has to say "I respect you". However, as soon as Pillman gets into the ring, he immediately starts to wail on Sullivan with the strap before it can even be attached to both men.
After the brawl slows down, Pillman grabs the mic and says "I respect you, bookerman" and runs out of the ring, effectively ending the match. What's more important about this moment in particular is that Pillman just outed Kevin Sullivan as head booker of the product. We got a bit to unpack with this.
The first thing to say was that this was indeed a worked shoot that was going to lead into an angle of sorts. Bischoff would fire Brian Pillman, who would go to ECW and then come back after gaining some legitimate heat. The thing is, Pillman never came back to WCW, and we will see him again in the WWF. Which is a shame that Pillman is gone from WCW as he's been one of the most interesting characters in this era of the project.
Pillman would indeed go to ECW, where the "loose cannon" gimmick would be ramped up, cutting harder promos against Bischoff and WCW. Even an infamous segment where he was at home wrestling a giant pencil ("I always end up fightingwith the pencil"). It was all going perfectly. Unfortunately on April 15th of 1996, Pillman would fall asleep at the wheel of his Hummer and crash into a tree trunk, severly shattering his ankle to the point that it neded to be fused together. The Pillman we'll see in the WWF will still be a great talker, but in terms of in the ring, he's a shell of his former self, and that's a complete shame.
So, what happens now that our respect match is out the window? Screw it, let's have Arn Anderson (in his little boy shorts) wrestle Kevin Sullivan instead! So the respect match is back on as Arn attaches the strap. He lashes at Sullivan with the strap and beats him down in the corner. He ties up Sullivan's feet and stomps him down some more. Sullivan comes back by pulling the strap at the groin of Arn and whipping at him. He whips Arn into the corner and continues to whip and stomp at Arn.
Arn hits a low blow with his knee, but Sullivan refuses to quit. Arn then ties Sullivan by the throat and hangs him over the ropes, but Sullivan still refuses. He pulls Arn over the ropes and sends Arn shoulder first into the buckle. He continues to whip Arn until Arn pulls Sullivan face-first into the post. Arn goes up, but gets pulled down. Ric Flair jogs to the ring and forces the match to stop.
He says that they've proven nothing and should focus on kicking the butts of Hogan and Savage. And thus this strange few minutes come to an end as Flair says that tonight, right here, they'll destroy Hulkamania and he'll take the belt and Elizabeth.
Gene is with Jimmy Hart (who must have hot hoofed it right there), and a very sleepy looking Giant. Hart says that Hogan has one eye and time is ticking with him before he steps in the ring with the Giant. Hulkamania is done forever, baby. Giant says that today is the day of reckoning. Giant says that he's looked into the darkest, deepest reaches of the soul and all that is bad and evil is inside of him. He promises to erupt like a volcano all over Hogan in the cage (giggity).
Up next, it's a second tag team title match. Sting and Luger defend the WCW World Tag Team Titles against The Road Warriors. Once again, Luger is being hesitant to enter the ring, much to Sting's frustration. Luger runs off to the entrance way while Hawk and Animal start to chase, but they get stopped by the referee. After another couple minutes of hesitation, Luger finally makes it to the corner as Hawk and Sting start. Dropkick by Hawk connects. Sting is the next to wander outside the ring as Hawk follows. Sting kicks him and throws him into the guardrail. He brings Hawk back in, but Hawk gets a messt neckbreaker. Both men wrestle around for a cover, but no avail.
Hawk locks in an STF until Sting gets the ropes. Hawk stay on Sting with a stomp to the back and a stiff set of strikes. Tag to Animal who wrings the shoulder. Sting breaks free and finally tags in Luger. Luger remains hesitant to enter, but finally does. Boot to the sternum of Animal as Luger then rams Animal into the buckle. Animal counters with a buckle slam and a boot followed by a powerslam. Cover only gets a two. Animal follows with an arm bar as Hawk gets in a tag. Hawk whips Luger into the corner and hits a clothesline followed by a couple corner punches. Another corner whip and a clothesline follow.
Animal throws Luger into the guardrail while Sting tries to help his partner out. Luger returns to the ring and pokes the eye of Hawk. He lands some punches and a clothesline. Cover, but Hawk kicks out at two. Tag to Sting who gets in knees to the gut and a suplex. Cover only gets a two. Sting goes into the headlock, but Hawk tries to turn it into a roll up for two. But Still keeps the hold in. Animal comes in, but both Sting and Animal collide into each other, with Sting falling head-first to the groin of Animal. Tag to Luger who goes on the assault. He picks Animal up and hits an inverse atomic drop.
Tag to Sting as the pair lay in more strikes to the back. Bulldog facebuster by Sting who then goes up top for a splash, but Animal gets the knees up, causing the Stinger to crash and burn. Tag to Hawk and a tag to Luger, but Hawk begins to club at Luger and hits a hard running shoulder block. Leg drop cover only gets a two for Hawk. He follows up with some jumping fist drops. Front facelock with a knee in the spine of Luger is transistioned to a sleeper hold, but Luger gets in a jawbreaker. Tags to Sting and Animal.
Sting gets a stinger splash on Animal in the corner. He tries for the Scorpion Death Lock, but Hawk hits him with a clothesline. Hawk is brought in and locks in a chinlock with his legs wrapped around the midsection. Sting tries a sunset flip, but gets punched down. He tries to roll Hawk up, but Hawk kicks out at one. Hard punch by Hawk who tags in Animal. Animal locks in a chinlock and yanks at the hair of the Stinger. Luger breaks the hold and starts stomping down Animal. Hawk comes in and starts going after Luger, but the referee breaks it. Luger almost continues at Animal before the ref stops it.
Suplex by Sting, but Animal no-sells. Suplex by Animal and Sting no-sells. Sure. Tag to Hawk as this finally goes out the window. They beat down on Luger and throw Sting to the outside. Both teams brawl up the ramp and around the ring as this match is finally counted out. Way too long a match, but I did like that it felt more hard hitting for the majority and wasn't just "face in peril" work.
Mean Gene is with Ric Flair and Woman. Woman says that what she wants is what she gets (at McDonald's today?). Flair says the plans of Hogan and Savage to get Sullivan and Anderson to turn on each other failed. But now the cage goes down and the building gets dark as Flair and Woman make it to the ring. He says that Savage will be paranoid that he'll be beaten down by flair and that Elizabeth will be taken. Flair promises a title change tonight.
Up next, it's the first of two cage matches. Randy Savage defending the WCW World Championship against Ric Flair. As the cage is lowered, Gene interviews Savage and Elizabeth. Savage brings up that the Mega Powers are back and it's going to be complete mental insanity. He continues to quote Buzz Lightyear with "Infinity and Beyond" as he promises to beat Ric Flair tonight.
Pre-match, Flair grabs a mic and tries to come on to Elizabeth, but she just ignores him. After some more stalling, Flair finally gets inside the cage and we get to action. Savage gets right at him and takes Flair to the corner, gouging the nose and eyes, followed by some punches. Flair turns it around into a stiff chop, but Savage peppers some punches. Cover, but the referee is focused on fixing the door. Flair chops at Savage and gets in a headlock takedown, followed by a knee drop. He then rams Savage hard into the steel, causing Savage to be tangled in the ropes. Flair then just knocks the referee out for the hell of it.
Backslide by Savage, but the referee is still down. The ref recovers as Savage lands some clotheslines. Cover only gets a two. Savage tries to throw Flair into the steel, but Flair turns it around, sending Savage once again crashing into the steel fencing. Elbow by Flair who covers for two. Hard chops in the corner from Flair who then jaw jacks the crowd some. Savage ducks an elbow, but eats another one. Flair takes Savage over the ropes and rams him head-first into the steel. Flair goes up, just to be thrown off as usual. Savage tries for a figure four and locks the hold in. Flair gets the rope, but it doesn't count as a break. Plus, you know, the punch in the face earlier.
Savage breaks the hold and gets in a right fist. Cover for two. Body slam by Savage who goes up top, He could easily win at this point, but instead dives off to Flair, only for Flair to get in a sucker punch. Flair follows with a stalling suplex, but clutches his knee after dropping the Macho Man. Cover attempts only garner two counts. Flair throws Savage hard into the steel as Savage ends up draped over the ropes. Flair locks in the figure four, and uses the ropes for leverage (which is fair since it's no DQ). Eventually the referee pulls Flair off of Savage. Flair tries again, but Savage rolls him up for a two count.
Savage finally throws Flair into the steel wall and follows with a second. He then grates Flair into the steel (as Woman shrillly screams). Flair is finally busted open (like Flair always is) as Savage continues to pound into the wound. Flair comes back with an inverse atomic drop, and then a patented Flair Flop. Speaking of patented, Flair gets his trunks yanked down as he tries to get out of the cage. Flair's ass is something I never thought I'd see this much while blogging WCW. And I mean the whole crack. Near taint territory. Ay yi yi. Cover, but Flair kicks out at two. However there's a miscommunication as the timekeeper rings the bell early.
Flair hits a low blow to Savage and struts around like a loon. He then chokes Savage. Flair goes back up the cage and for the second time, gets his trunks pulled down so we can see full Flair ass. At this point I'm certain if this keeps up we're gonna see Space Mountain. How is this not the Uncensored PPV at this point? Savage rams Flair into the steel while Flair's butt's just hanging out for the world to see. Flair flops off the ropes and finally adjusts his drawers. Savge throws Flair into the steel again. Flair tries to go up, but thankfully Savage doesn't pull Flair's trunks down, but instead rams Flair so hard that it opens the cage door wide open. Woman tries to throw powder in Savage's eyes, but he ducks it.
But that's not all! Elizabeth hands Flair her high heel shoe. Savage tries a roll up, but Flair kicks out at two. He smashes Savage with the shoe and covers for the three to regain the WCW World Title. Hogan comes to ringside with a chair to confront Elizabeth and Woman, but then turns his attention to Flair. Dock Boy Arn comes in as the horsemen and the ladies escape up the ramp.
A good world title match and honestly the best Savage/Flair match I've seen since starting this up. Good back and forth, lots of great chemistry, and some fun spots (depending on your preference of pasty Flair backside). It does continue the story that we've been building since the previous Nitro with Elizabeth seeming to be turning, and now we have the full blown turn. Shame this just means more hot potato with the title belt, but if anyone was to take the belt right now, at least it's not Hogan.
Speaking of Hogan, he's in a rage backstage with Mean Gene about how Elizabeth is a turncoat thanks to Ric Flair. On to the next match with the Giant, his match is unsanctioned with the ref on the outside. This one is an escape match. And with one eye literally open, he knows the Hulkamaniacs will defend his blind side.
Main event time as Hulk Hogan faces The Giant in the steel cage. Loud "Hogan Sucks" chants as Hogan starts strong by ramming Giant into the cage and wearing the Giant down. Pretty solidly for a one-eyed man might I add. Hogan, like a face would, chokes Giant with his fist tape. He then starts punching down Giant in the corner and bites the face. Hogan climbs up and chokes Giant with his boots. Hogan then chokes Giant with his shirt. Hogan tries for a slam and finally the Giant gains control with some stiff clubbing blows.
Whip to the corner and a boot from the Giant followed by a clubbing blow to the back. Giant gets in knees to the midsection and a bearhug, but again Hogan bites the face. He tries to throw Giant into the steel, but Giant throws him into it instead. Giant then chokes Hogan with the shirt. Giant finally starts to grind at the injured eye and bites at it. Slam by the Giant. He tries an elbow drop, but Hogan escapes in time. Hogan begins to punch at Giant as the crowd is mixed. He tries for the slam, but Giant uses his weight to drop down on Hogan. He then chokes Hogan with his boot and hits some more clubbing strikes.
He throws Hogan into the steel a couple of times and follows with a vertical suplex. Giant goes to the cage door, but Hogan puts a stop to it. Giant hits a backbreaker and another throw into the steel. He applies a long bearhug to Hogan as the crowd cheers on Hogan. After about two minutes, Hogan breaks free and starts laying in some fists. Hogan ducks a clothesline, but Giant stays on him with more clubbing shots. Chokeslam by Giant connects.
...I hate this man.
Hogan of course Hulks up after the chokeslam. Some punches and a hard throw into the cage door. More face biting and another big throw into the cage. Giant is busted open as Hogan keeps throwing him into the steel. Boot and the body slam by Hogan followed by the leg drop several times. But turnabout is fair play you orange prick. Giant sits up and goes after Hogan as the two brawl above the ropes. But it's Hogan who wins out, knocking the Giant down. Hogan finally climbs over to get the win. However, Sullivan immediately hits Hogan with a chair, which Hogan no-sells. Hogan grabs the chair and grabs Sullivan, bringing him back into the cage.
The Dungeon of Doom arrive to just take chair shots like a bunch of geeks. That's all these guys are. Just a dungeon of geeks. This is pathetic at this point.
But from the entrance is the massive Loch Ness. He tries to get in, but the Dungeon of Doom try to hold him back while Hogan celebrates like a man whose creative control contract lets him have a garbage ending where he can suck his own chode like this. This whole ending can go to hell.
Superbrawl is a mixed show. More bad than good really. The positives are that I enjoyed the garbage brawl of the Nasty Boys vs Public Enemy. I also thought that the Badd/Page match was great as well as the cage match between Savage and Flair. And while I wasn't too thrilled with either match really, I liked the tag title situation as Luger continues to pull some shady trash. Not to mention the intrigue of the whole Pillman/Sullivan "Booker Man" situation. Now on to the bad. Konnan vs One Man Gang was a poorly executed slop fest. While I liked the Luger stuff, neither tag title match set the world on fire. And that end segment with a one eyed Hulk Hogan making geeks out eight men is enough to remind me why I hate Hogan-Sempai with a passion. After some strong shows with Starrcade and Clash of the Champions, it's back to weaker outings for WCW. A C- rating for this show.
