Rapidly Reviewing Sonic SatAM Episode 24: Drood Henge

We open once again in Robotropolis as Uncle Chuck is awaiting Dulcy and Sally. Both arrive, in classic Dulcy crash fashion. He has info involving hunting the scrolls of Drood Henge. Drood Henge was a place that holds the power stones. It turns out that King Acorn time locked all info on Drood Henge until she came into power. I'd say that feels stupid, but then again King Acorn was kind of an idiot to trust Robotnik in the first place. Meanwhile, Robotnik is trying ot translate the language of Drood Henge while Snively finds the first scroll.

Sonic and Tails are just relaxing in a nice volcano sauna, until they spot a freighter flying past them. They also spot a spy camera, which Tails quickly gets rid of. Have I mentioned before that I'm so happy to see them actually using Tails this season? But that use of Tails is dashed shortly as Sonic goes it alone. However, Sonic gets surrounded by swat bots while Tails gets captured by the bots.

Tails ends up captured by Snively (who's more focused on finding the scrolls and power stones). Sonic easily escapes the swat bots and holds Snively hostage long enough to save him.  Tails manages to easily deactivate the power to the power station, showing that he's not only getting lessons from Sonic, but Sally. Sonic and Tails makes their leave while Snively fears his imminent death from Robotnik.

Fortunately for Snively he at least found the second scroll, so his death isn't as imminent as expected. Sally and Dulcy find Sonic and Tails while Robotnik himself makes it to Drood Henge. Sally and Sonic exchange their information and the data lock. Sonic manages to easily disable the data lock, which gives a message from King Acorn on the power stones. If they're put together the wrong way, they'll lead to total destruction. Unfortunately Robotnik already has the first stone.

Despite Sally's concerns, Sonic vouches for Tails, allowing him to come on the mission. Robotnik already expects Sonic to arrive. Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails find what appears to be another stone, which leads to another attack from the swat bots. Sonic distracts the bots, leading them and Robotnik to the volcanoes from earlier in the episode.

Sonic throws the stone into the volcano, to the anger of Robotnik. He makes his exit via Dulcy, and the others find the real scroll and the real second stone. Sally wishes to destroy it, but Sonic says it will be important to the doomsday project. He also tells Sally that the fake stone strategy was Tails' idea, earning the little guy some more praise and making him a full fledged freedom fighter.

Despite being a somewhat denser episode, Drood Henge was still a great episode for a lot of reasons. We continue the heavy info dump as we get closer to the doomsday project, now that we have the involvement of the power stones (I guess a search for Chaos Emeralds would take much longer), and little touches like Sonic being able to speak to Nicole makes for what continues to be my favorite running gag of sorts during the season. But what makes this episode great the most is the use of Tails, who is finally going from just another kid character to freedom fighter. We see that he knows how to handle certain bots, hack into systems and create winning strategies. He's finally feeling like Sonic's sidekick, which was something that, like I said before, even Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog did right. For all those reasons, this is a definite winner of an episode.
