We open on Robotropolis as, just like he said in Sonic Conversion, Uncle Chuck is deliviering information for the freedom fighters. Speaking of the freedom fighters, Sonic is more concerned with scarfing chili dogs than collected that said information. He does eventually at least. After some sarcasm tennis with Sally though. The info from Uncle Chuck tells them to go back to knothole for now as Robotnik appears to be moving the roboticizer to the north. They begin to do so, but Sonic wants at least one more chili dog before he does.
Meanwhile, Snively is getting a little too used to being in charge of Robotropolis. Robotnik wants him to not screw things up while he deals with freedom fighters to the north. Sonic finds a chili dog vending machine (which considering how old that machine is must honestly be some rank dogs). But before he can fill his face, he discovers some freedom fighters being led to the roboticizer by swat bots. He finishes his meal and heads to the rescue.
Sonic easily defeats the robots, much to the anger of Snively. Sonic saves the freedom fighters, but gets zapped with a laser blast. This turns out to be a device called the memory scrambler. Yep, we got ourselves an amnesia episode. Snively finds Sonic, now devoid of his memory and tells him that Snively is his friend and the freedom fighters are the enemy.
Meanwhile back at Knothole, Sally's concerned about Sonic being gone for so long. and Dulcy isn't any help. She sends a message to Uncle Chuck. Snively is quick to brainwash Sonic, even referring to himself as Snively the Great and referring to Sally is the troublemaker. The freedom fighters reach Uncle Chuck, who suggests the holding room, where prisoners wait to be roboticized. Sonic isn't there, obviously, but they do quickly find Sonic and Snively getting along. Snively sends Sonic to the great forest to flush out the freedom fighters. Sally warns the others about the brain drained hedgehog.
However, the only one who wasn't aware of this is Tails, who greets his hero upon his return. Sonic convines him to lead him to Knothole village, while Snively finally manages to find the village's location, sending the assault bots to go on the offensive. Sonic heads to his hut, as Tails finally begins to realize that Sonic's not quite right today. He informs Sally as she discovers that Snively is on his way to Knothole.
Sally has the rest of the freedom fighters hide while Snively is close to arrival, unaware that Uncle chuck is stowing away. He arrives, and uses the swat bots to flush them out. Uncle Chuck tells Sally that the memory scrambler is temporary, and might be able to be counteracted with a power ring. Tails takes some initiative to rush to the lake to grab one. Snively finds the hidden freedom fighters...
With Antoine being as useful as ever...
And begins launching the stealth bots.
Tails brings Sonic to Sally and Chuck, where they hand him the power ring, which finally jogs the memory back. Sonic manages to hit Snively with the memory scrambler, while Chuck sends the stealth bots back to base. Sonic takes Snively back to base to make Snively believe that Robotnik the enemy. In other words, he's giving ol' big nose the death sentence. They get rid of the coordinates to knothole as Robotnik returns...
And is about to do said killing to Snively. Snively regains his senses, and leads him to knothole... only since the coordinates lead to the great swamp, he's leading him to nowhere.
After two really good episodes, we kind of hit a weaker one with No Brainer. Granted, there were some fun moments, and it was especially entertaining to see Snively in charge, but if you've seen one memory loss episode, you've seen them all. And really, it doesn't feel like much is being done in this one where it feels unique. It is good to see Uncle Chuck's spy skills being used, and it's especially good to see Tails being used more, but other than that, there wasn't much to continue the narrative of this season, nor any more big revelations. It's still a decent episode, but feels like a bit of a season one step backwards. That won't be the case for the next two episodes as next time we go back to the past.
