Rapidly Reviewing Sonic SatAM Episode 3: Sonic And Sally

Our episode opens once again in Robotropolis. Sonic, Sally and Bunnie are on today's mission. This time it's to blow up one of Robotnik's Swatbot factories.  Sonic is given a bunch of explosive cannisters and makes his way inside the factory while Bunnie cuts the power. Sonic gets cornered by the many Swatbots in the factory, but since he has he deus ex power ring, he manages to escape. As for Sally... well, Sally just kind of stands out in the open waiting for them to finish.

This doesn't fare well for her as she gets captured by Swatbots.

The other two return to Knothole village. Sonic quickly realizes that something's happened to Sally and goes back, not before Bunnie reminds him that he may need a power ring, which means he sure as heck isn't coming to her rescue tonight.  So, with Sally captured and all, what is Robotnik's big plan?

To use a robotic version of her to try to trick Sonic and the others into giving out the location of Knothole. While that goes down, he plans to Roboticize her. Something that I guess takes a lot longer than you'd think. Sally believes that Sonic is too smart to fall for a robot, but Robotnik manages to copy her memories and personality into the robot. Only more evil and surprisingly more snarky, which considering this is Sally, that's quite incredible.

Cut to the next day as and impatient Sonic finally manages to get his hands on a power ring. He returns to Robotropolis, once again being chased by Swatbots. Robotnik calls off the Swatbots to let him find the impostor Sally without mcu of an issue. Sonic has a half decent Robotnik impression, which he uses to open the jail cell to free her.

Despite this Sally being a bit more airheaded and a lot more amorous, Sonic doesn't seem to notice. Robotnik begins the roboticization, but in an act of convenience, the roboticizer explodes, destroying the video feed, which means that he still can't see where Knothole is. See Robotnik, you had to upgrade to windows 10 and look where it got you.

Sonic and "Sally" return to Knothole, where everyone just seems to think she's the genuine article. The first one to begin to think that something's off is Tails, mainly because she isn't doing the normal things she does with him like "the funny kiss" when seeing him or reading stories in the right voice. Essentially, Robotnik made a doppleganger that kind of does a really rotten job at doppleganging. He gets confirmation on his concerns when he sees her acting more robotic during the night. Of course, as is the cliche, when he tries to tell Sonic, he doesn't believe him.

Since the detonators didn't go off at the swatbot factory, Sonic, Rotor, Bunnie and "Sally" return to Robotropolis. They all high five after destroying a swatbot ship, but Sally's high five is a lot stronger than expected. Not only that, but they begin to realize that the swatbots know what they're up to, as if there may be someone on the inside. It takes "Sally" completely botching their usual fist bump for Sonic to finally realize that it's not the real deal.

She runs off as he gives chase. Being a robot, she's equipped with lasers and a glue trap, which Sonic runs into. Before she can finish him off, Bunnie shows up to dropkick her in the face. Sonic uses the power ring to circle around "Sally", managing to break down the bot. They figure that if this isn't the real Sally, then maybe it knows where the real Sally is.

The three learn from "Sally" that the real Sally is about to be roboticized. Sonic goes off to save her, but before he does, Rotor retools "Sally" to use as a surprise for Robotnik. The roboticizers conveniently is still having issues while Sonic works his way into the building. Rotor and Bunnie detonate the swatbot factory to distract Robotnik while Sonic saves Sally and makes the switch. Sonic and Sally taunt Robotnik while "roboticized" Sally shoots up the place. Wen the episode with tails is reunited with the real Sally as Sonic jokingly calls her a fake.

"Sonic and Sally" is a decent episode. Lots of action and far stronger pacing than the last episode for certain, and the story is far more interesting. Although it does kind of fall into a lot of the tropes that most evil twin stories suffer from. Not to mention episode hits a few too many plot conveniences in keeping Sally from being roboticized and having Robotnik find Knothole. Plus, for all of Robotnik's planning, he really didn't make this Sally very genuine. That aside, it gives some good moments for Tails, it has Bunnie involved heavily (which is always a plus) and the story never feels too dull. Definitely the best episode of Sonic SatAM to this point.
