Podcast Review: Worst Episode Ever

Do you like the Simpsons? Or to be more specific, the pre-season 11 Simpsons? You know, before Homer became a jerkass, Marge wasn't overly sexualized, Lisa wasn't adapting beliefs every week, Bart wasn't trying to make "Karate" the new "Cowabunga", and Maggie was... well Maggie? Well do I have a podcast for you on this week's Podcast review. It's The Worst Episode Ever podcast (also known as the WEE podcast).

The tagline of the show is "the podcast about The Simpsons from guys who love The Simpsons taking about how much we hate The Simpsons." Started on October 22nd of last year, the podcast is based out of New York and hosted by Jack Picone and Dan Mulhall. Fans of the Simpsons back in the days of the 90's who are going back through the aforementioned "dark period" to see what episode of the series is truly the worst ever.

Jockey Elves? Why?

Format of the podcast is as follows. An opening, often unofficially sponsoring Popeye's chicken (before issues with the chicken chain started to pop up), they'd talk quickly about the episode of the week, before watching it, and spending an hour talking about everything that made said episode one of The Simpson's worst. Recently, they've been adding special guests to the show to add as a third voice and more opinions on the issues from the episode in question.

What  I like most about the WEE podcast is their structure in terms of how they present their episode guide. As this is a podcast searching out the worst episode of the Simpsons, they list their episodes in order from best to worst. At the time this article was written, their new #1 worst episode is "The Blue and the Gray". The one where Marge gets gray hair, continuity from old episodes is killed, and more awful situations.

Modern Simpsons: Where urination and jerkassery are considered top comedy

Other episodes covered so far for the show include Saddlesore Galactica (AKA that stupid episode with the jockey elves),  Large Marge (the one where Marge gets breast implants and is ogled for 22 minutes), and the one episode I will never watch in full, lest I actually get up the nerve to just review it for Tooncrap, Lisa Goes Gaga. Plus more of your favorite, and least favorite Post-Season 10 episodes.

With 48 episodes covered, lord knows they'll no doubt have that one beaten soon enough considering the massive library of Simpsons to cover. Episodes are uploaded every Thursday, and with it being a comedy podcast, they also offer an outtake reel not long after an episode if you want more yellow-human related wackiness in your podcast pickin's.

Do I recommend the Worst Episode Ever podcast? Yes. Dan and Jack are fun to listen to and provide lots of fun banter, decent insight, and plenty of Daleks, Leo DiCaprio and other such craziness. What makes the podcast work especially is that the hosts have fun with the show and aren't just ranting incessantly about how bad everything is, and instead still manage to give even the most dire of episodes at least a few decent positives. It's a very easy listen usually clocking in at about a little over an hour, and if you love the Simpsons, or loved it, you'll definitely enjoy the Worst Episode Ever Podcast.
