Nitro Charged: WCW Monday Nitro: February 12th, 1996

We're just one night removed from the mediocre Superbrawl VI as WCW Monday Nitro is live from Tampa, Florida. In an eventful evening, Miss Elizabeth turned on Randy Savage to help Ric Flair regain the WCW world title. Also Hulk Hogan made every member of the dungeon of doom look like geeks. But tonight it's down to business. Bischoff tells us that Brian Pillman is gone from WCW after his actions at Superbrawl. Plus tonight we'll see Hulk Hogan take on Arn Anderson.

But opening action tonight is Hugh Morrus of the Dungeon of Doom taking on former WCW champion Randy Savage. Morrus attacks Savage early, but Savage comes back, gouging at the eyes of the laughing man. Morrus gets some shoulder blocks and chops in the corner, then follows with a whip to the corner and a clothesline. Savage fights back with an eye rake, a ram to the buckle, and a grind over the ropes. Morrus comes back with some offense, including some more rams into the corner and a whip. Savage gets up a big boot and a running axe handle, followed by a choke and an elbow drop. Cover gets barely a two.

Morrus rakes the eyes and chokes Savage on the ropes. He hits an axe handle to the back and follows with more strikes in the corner. Savage fights back by throwing Morrus out of the ring and ramming him into the steel post. He brings Morrus back in and hits a kick to the midsection. He tries for a suplex, but Morrus reverses with one of his own. Morrus returns to choking Savage. Savage fights back with an ax handle in the corner and an elbow to the face. Savage rakes the face, but Morrus comes right back with a strike and a slam. He tries for a moonsault, but Savage avoids. Slam by Savage and a pair of elbow drops gets the win for the Macho Man in what was a pretty rough little scrap. Savage calls for a third, but Morrus escapes.  Savage grabs the mic and says he doesn't want Morrus, he wants Ric Flair.

Mean Gene talks to Steve Grissom, the driver of the WCW car. Not much to this other than shilling the WCW race car. Guy talks pretty fast, almost Boomhauer quick.

Up next, Scotty Riggs is in action against the Loch Ness. The massive englishman also known as Giant Haystacks, billed at 675 pounds. Even bigger than Yokozuna at his worst weight. Riggs tries to take the big man down with dropkicks, but nothing doing. Riggs dives off the top...

And whoopsie! Loch Ness completely misses catching Riggs for a body slam. A pair of elbow drops (though from a far lower height) gets the win in a blissfully quick mess.

Mean Gene is with Woman and Elizabeth who are carrying a hospital bed up to the entranceway.  Gene tries to get an answer from Elizabeth who says that Savage promised that someone would leave Superbrawl on a gurney, and it may have taken all night, but Flair was a man of his word.

And as if someone shouted "free Viagra", Ric Flair springs out of the gurney with a smile on his face. He now has Woman on his right and Miss "by god" Elizabeth on his left, and he just happens to be the reigning champion for the 13th time. When it comes to Savage's rematch next week, he can't wait. He gives the mic to Miss Elizabeth who says that she took half of everything and last night she took it all. She pauses, forgetting her promo, but then continues saying that now Savage is over the edge.

Up next, Konnan is in action against Dangerous Devon Storm. Sneak attack dropkick by Storm, who follows with a baseball slide. He then grabs a steel chair and dives over the ropes, flipping on to Konnan. He follows with a dropkick off the apron. He sets Konnan on the chair, then sets up the stairs in front of him.

Storm goes for a dive off the stairs, but Konnan catches him, and hits a powerbomb (a bit sloppy, but could have been worse). Konnan brings Storm back in and lays in some strikes. Storm reverses a whip, but Konnan flips around and hits a clothesline. Safe looking flip hurricanrana, followed by some less flashy looking fast moves including a headscissor and an arm drag. Konnan still looks pretty sloppy, but compared to his match with One Man Gang, this is far better.

Unique powerbomb by Konnan who covers for two. He then goes for a leg lock while George Steinbrenner of the New York Yankees is watching on in the crowd. Storm gets in a leg lock of his own, but Konnan escapes. Lock by Konnan until Storm breaks the hold via the ropes. Hard chops from Konnan who then whips Storm in the corner. Elbow to the face by Storm who follows with a slingshot kick to the face.  Konnan catches Storm in the ropes, but Storm tries to turn it into a sunset flip over the ropes, which Konnan turns into a hurricanrana. Both men back in as Storm sets Konnan for a hurricanrana off the top, but gets crushed with a brutal powerbomb by Konnan for the win in a very car crash match. Both tried to look super flashy and great in the ring, but just a very rough, rough match.

Up next, it's our main event. "Sleep With One Eye" Hogan taking on Arn Anderson (with Woman).  Hammerlock and a forearm early by Arn. He tries to ram Hogan into the buckle, but Hogan blocks and starts to lay in some fists and a bite to the forehead. Arn reverses a whip and hits a clothesline, which Hogan no-sells. Clotheslines by Hogan who follows with a ram to the buckle and another clothesline, which Arn certainly doesn't no-sell. Hogan rakes at the back and hits a strike to the throat. He throws Arn outside and gives chase. Arn gets in a strike and tries a piledriver on the outside, but Hogan catches him and catapults him into the steel.

Hogan removes the eye patch and throws Arn shoulder first into the post. He begins to work on the arm by ramming it hard into the steel. He brings Arn back in and pounds at the head with some more strikes. Hogan then takes his tape and chokes out Arn, then chokes him some more with his hands (like a face would). Arn tries a boot, but Hogan grabs the boot and follows with an atomic drop and a back suplex. Elbow drops by Hogan follows by a boot rake while Steinbrenner laughs on.

Hogan hits a fast clothesline on Arn and continues to punch at the enforcer in the corner. Arn gets an elbow to the eye of Hogan. Arn goes up slowly, but Hogan grabs him and sloppily drops him on the ropes. Arn fights back, with some more shots to the bad eye. Ric Flair struts his way to ringside with Elizabeth while arn grinds the eye. Arn hits a spinebuster, and Hogan for once doesn't just pop up. He does however kick out and start hulking up. Punches by Hogan followed by a big boot. Hogan struts to mock Flair and goes for a figure four on Arn. Flair runs in, but Hogan grabs him with a roll up, while keeping Arn locked. Hogan punches out Flair, but Woman is on the apron. She throws powder in the eye of Hogan while Flair hands Arn the high heeled boot. Strike by Arn and a cover and Arn Anderson pins and beats Hulk Frigging Hogan!!

But of course, Hogan just pops up and lays them both out anyway like the piece of garbage he is. Boots to both men as Savage comes in and is on the attack. Hogan throws Flair into the steel chair of Savage. The Horsemen give leave as Hogan and Savage celebrate. Yuck. Flair grabs the headset up the entrance way and says that Hogan got his ass kicked again. Arn says that the sky's not falling. Yes, Arn Anderson just beat the great Hogan. Hogan and Savage make their way up and chases them off and grabs at Heenan's mic and yells for Flair and Arn to come back. Gene tries to gain control as both Hogan and Savage yell at each other. He promises that Savage will win back the title and he will beat Arn Anderson in a rematch.

A really sloppy episode of Nitro this week honestly. The in-ring felt really off with everyone not on their a-game. Savage and Morrus was fine, but felt like more of a scrap than a wrestling match. Loch Ness is just a mass of awfulness. Devon Storm and Konnan tried, but they just looked really bad with how botchy everything felt. And the main event, while decent for a Hogan match, just ended in the same awful fashion of Superbrawl. Hogan no-selling everything and coming off like an untouchable god. Hogan-Senpai in his full monstrous form. Hell, we couldn't even enjoy the idea of Arn Anderson getting a win before he made that feel unimportant. In the end, after a mediocre PPV we get a mediocre episode of Nitro. A C is the rating for this show.
