Nitro Charged: WCW Monday Nitro: December 11th, 1995

Coming in from the home of the Nature Boy, it's Nitro from Charllote, North Carolina with a couple weeks away from the Starrcade pay per view. But tonight we have ourselves a main event tag match. Sting teams with Hulk Hogan to take on Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Also we get a shot of Bobby Heenan snidely flipping off the camera. or maybe Mongo. Or Pepe, that dog might deserve it. With his little costumes and all.

We open Nitro with Eddie Guerrero vs Mr. J.L. Neither man have entrances as we go right into action. J.L ducks a clothesline, but Eddie comes back with some athletic dodges and a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Cover only gets a two. Slam and a slingshot plancha connect on J.L. Back suplex and a cover only get two for Eddie. Eddie locks in an abdominal stretch. He tries a powerbomb, but J.L dodges and gets in an arm drag. Eddie catches J.L and lands an awkward atomic drop. J.L comes back with a headscissors sending Eddie outside.

Eddie grabs the arm and hits a massive arm drag off the top buckle. J.L catches Eddie and puts him on the buckle, hitting a slingshot dropkick sending Eddie to the outside. He follows with a flip off the apron connecting perfectly on Guerrero. He brings Eddie back in and covers for two. He follows with a vertical suplex. Cover still just gets two. He rams Eddie's head into the buckle and follows with a dropkick. Eddie tries a sunset flip, but J.L tries to reverse, only to be caught in a cover for the three, giving Eddie the win in a fast paced and decent opener that, like a lot of these kind of matches, just don't feel like they get enough time to make an impact.

It's that time of the week for Mean Gene to interview Jimmy Hart, who is with Lex Luger. This time Hart actually acknowledges the high five attempt as he says that Luger is the uncrowned champion. Luger says that every time they've met Randy Savage, it's been Sting that's saved him every time. And if not for Hogan, he'd have won the title last week. He says that at Starrcade, he owns Savage, Ric Flair is neutral, and when it comes to Sting, the triangle match will come down to the two of them and may the best man win.

Disco Fever! Wonderfuuuuuuuuuuuuul! It's the clash of good bad themes as Disco Inferno is in action next against "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff. "Paula" chants rain on Orndorff as Disco pearl harbors him. He continues to assault him with kicks and elbows. He chokes Orndorff on the rope and continues to stomp him down. Orndorff gets an elbow out of the corner and hits some hard lefts. Inverse atomic drop and a clothesline follow. He hits a facebuster and mocks Disco with surprisingly worse dancing. Elbow to the throat and a back suplex get the win in a... match.

Gene is with three out of the four horsemen (absent is Chris Benoit). Pillman talks about how great it is to be a member of the horsemen. He says that Hogan wanted to be a horseman so bad that he dressed in black to play the bad guy. But Hogan couldn't cut it so that's why he threw the black gear in the trash can. He turns to the American Males and said that they send 8X10s of themselves and Mongo can't comment on their content, but he praises Mongo for being flexible. He mocks the Zodiac and Shark and then talks about how Orndorff once was back on horsemen material, and now he's palling around with Gary Spivey and Dionne Warwick.

Flair gets on the mic but get interrupted by Orndorff who goes after Pillman. Pillman calls Orndorff mediocre as Orndorgg says that if Pillman likes carrying bags around, then he's technically a horseman. Pillman slaps Orndorff as Mr. Wonderful tackles him. Flair and Arn pull him off Pillman and start the beatdown, with Pillman getting in a cheap shot. They finish the job with a spike piledriver on the concrete. Pillman gets a couple more cheap shots in as they make their exit.

While Orndorff is being put on the stretcher, we go to our next match. It's Lex Luger taking on Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Duggan starts on the attack. Luger tries a ram in the buckle, but gets some of his own (complete with that magical Luger overselling yelling). We cut back to Orndorff on the stretcher as Duggan continues offense. Hiptoss and a clothesline from Hacksaw followed by two elbow drops. We cut to Orndorff being placed into the ambulance while Luger regains control with some rights. Duggan reverses a whip and lands a clothesline. Jimmy Hart distracts the ref while Duggan tapes the fist. Luger knocks Duggan into the 2X4 and locks in a torture rack for the quick win.

Mean Gene is with Randy Savage (or Saveeg as he pronounces it). He talks about how busy Savage is including a world title match next week against the Giant. "Problems, problems. How are you gonna solve it? One at a time, one at a time" says Savage. He's not thinking about Tenzan at Starrcade, nor Luger, Sting or Flair. He's thinking clearly on Giant. He's never felt power of that level since Andre. Savage promises to be like dynamite and blow up in Giant's face.

It's main event time up next. Ric Flair and Arn Anderson of the Four Horsemen taking on Sting and Hogan-Senpai. Loud "Hogan Sucks" chants from the crowd which is definitely pro-Horsemen/Sting. Headlock by arn early on, keeping the pressure on the Stinger. Sting breaks free and tries a hiptoss, only for Arn to come back with a fireman's carry. Ax handles and clubbing rights to the back of Sting. Sting comes back, avoiding offense and catching Arn in a press slam. Hogan also gets in a cheap shot to Double A.

Tag in to Hogan which gets loud boos. Tag to Flair which gets a much louder pop. Shoulder block by Hogan. Flair brings Hogan to the corner and hits a chop, but Hogan no-sells all the strikes from the Nature Boy. Whip to the corner and a back drop followed by a forearm. He throws Flair over the buckle for the patented Flair bump, allowing Sting to get an ear clap on Flair. Arn tries to attack Hogan, but Hogan chokes him in the corner and follows with a clothesline. Flair comes back in and gets an eye poke on Hogan to loud "Woo" chants.

Flair gets some shots in on Hogan in the corner then tags in Arn. Arn works the shoulder then tags in Arn. Flair tries to attack Hogan, but Hogan lands a clothesline. Tag to Sting who gets Flair with the press slam. Hiptoss and an elbow by Sting who covers for two. Flair comes back with some offense, but sting manages to turn things around with a backslide for two.  Sting's face paint is just hanging off his face as he gets some ten count punches, only for Flair to land an inverse atomic drop. Tag to Arn who goes up top, but Sting throws him off. Scorpion death lock to Arn, but Flair makes the save. Sting locks the scorpion death lock to Arn, only for Arn to stop it.

Jimmy Hart and Lex Luger show up as Luger attacks Hogan, locking in the rack. Luger makes a run for it while the horsemen double team Sting in the ring. Knee drop by Flair followed by a hard chop. He tags in Arn who keeps Hogan out of the ring. Sting comes back with some fists, but can't tag Hogan. Arn tags in Flair who gets a boot to the knee followed by a chop block. Massive chop by Flair followed by some more boots to the midsection. Tag to Arn who smashes Sting's knee over the apron.

Flair locks in a figure four and uses Arn for some leverage. Sting finally no-sells the damage and yanks Flair over the ring to tag Hogan, but Arn distracts the ref, invalidating the tag. Arn comes in and continues to work on Sting's leg. Tag back to Flair who chops at Sting, who decides to no-sell the offense again. Flair goes up, but Sting throws him down. Cover, but Flair kicks out at two. Flair trips Sting and tags in Arn who lays a fist to Hogan and works down Sting some more. Whip by Arn is turned into a massive facebuster to take the enforcer down. Sting finally tags in Hogan.

Arn hits a spinebuster, but because Hogan's a prick, he completely no-sells the damage. He gets some punches in, whips Arn and lands a big boot. Boot to Flair and a leg drop to Arn gets the win. Yuck.

Pillman immediately runs in and begins to assault Sting. Luger and Hart show up yet again and gets Pillman off of Sting. But he does tell him to go after Hogan. He tries to help Sting, but Sting goes for the save on Hogan. Savage comes in, but Sting nails him in the face. Hogan tries to play peacemaker as Mean Gene comes in. Hogan is pissed wondering what's going on. Savage says he hates Lex Luger and wants to know what's going on with Sting as well. Sting says that last week he hit Hogan, and he did the same this week. But he wishes he could take it back. Hogan tries to defend Sting for saving him from the beatdown. Savage calms down and says that all they still want Sting on their side. They shake hands as Hogan reminds Savage that Savage still needs to survive the Giant next week.

Another average Nitro episode honestly. Eddie and J.L put on a decent match despite no real time for it. Disco and Orndorff was kinda bad while Hacksaw and Luger was pretty standard stuff. And of course there's the main event tag match that was okay until the same old boring Hogan finish. I like the angle with Orndorff being taken out with the spike piledriver as well as Pillman becoming more aggressive, but I am so tired of this "what side is Luger on" storyline at this point. Seeing Hogan, Sting and Savage spin their wheels every week because they don't know who to trust is already wearing thin. So much so that it really adds some low points to this edition of Nitro. In the end, a fair rating is a C-. Kind of substandard stuff here from WCW this week.

WHO WON THE WAR WEEK #14: RAW

Sure, Raw didn't exactly bring the best show ever this week either, but what is winning Raw over for me is the fact that there are multiple storylines to follow throughout the show instead of one dominating angle that just doesn't seem to want to end. Also the importance of the mid-90's women's division ending and a lot of the general weirdness of 90's WWF just made the sit for that show much more easier than hearing Hogan, Sting and Savage whining and moaning for another hour about "what's to be done with this Lex Luger"? Raw has tied it up with their seventh win.
