A Taste of the New Generation: Days of Diesel: WWF Monday Night Raw: June 26th, 1995

Raw is live in Danville, Pennsylvania for the next set of tapings following the King of the Ring, and leading us into the second In Your House Pay Per View. With Jerry Lawler still suffering from "foot in mouth disease" following his encounter with Bret Hart, Vince is joined once again by Shawn Michaels, looking like he just came out of a 90's gay rave with that mesh top. That, or he's Christian from 2000.

Opening action tonight is the Smoking Gunns against Jason Arhndt (or "Jason Is" mocks Vince) and the Black Phantom. Criss crossing and countering early on until Billy gets a shoulder block on the Phantom. He catches the Phantom and lands a body slam and follows with an arm drag. Tag to Bart who kicks the arm and goes for an arm bar, only for the Phantom to escape and tag Arhndt. Drop toe hold and suplex by Bart. Tag to Billy as both men land a double leg sweep. Tag to Bart who whips Arhndt and catches Arhndt as Billy drops the leg for the Sidewinder for the win in a quick, decent squash.

We get a video from earlier in the day of Jerry Lawler preparing to see his dentist Dr. Isaac Yankem D.D.S. He's still unable to get the taste out of his mouth. You can hear the drills and the sound of pain from behind the door as Lawler promises that Bret Hart will pay for what he did to him and that Isaac Yankem will promise that he's going to extract revenge on Bret as well, because you see, Isaac Yankem isn't just a dentist, he's (because this is the mid-90's) also a wrestler. We'll get more into who Yankem is in the coming weeks if you kane't wait to find out.

Skip is in action next against Scott Taylor. Sunny introduces the Bodydonnas (Vince's "and We're disgusting") In fact, Vince interrupts Sunny's promo to go over to Barry Didinsky, decked in Bret Hart apparel like a tool, as he hocks the King of the Ring shirt. Please, I don't need to be reminded of that show.

Back to the match. Skip does some jumping jacks, before Taylor lands some shots to him. Skip comes back with some dodges and an enziguri. More jumping jacks from Skip, who gets caught with a dropkick by Taylor sending him to the outside. Baseball slide by Taylor sends Skip nose first into the barricade. Skip catches Taylor and lands a body slam to the outside. Hy goes to the top and hits a diving headbutt to the outside. He goes back in the ring to do some push ups as Taylor comes back in. He sets Taylor  to the top and lands a frankensteiner, covering Taylor with some push ups for three. A fun little squash, lots of decent action on both ends, and I gotta admit...

Sunny's making me feel a little verklempt, and I'm not that into that.

We go to Oklahoma as we get a celebrity baseball game that Diesel was invited for follwing the Oklahoma City bombing. Lots of names involved including Troy Aikman and even Tony Danza himself.

Speaking of Diesel, after Sid's walkout at the King of the Ring, we learn from Todd Pettengill that Diesel will defend his WWF title at In Your House against Sid in a Lumberjack match. This will feature multiple superstars at ringside to ensure that nobody can leave the match. Hopefully they aren't actually dressed like lumberjacks like in that Hacksaw vs Michaels match in 1993.

Quick promo from Savio Vega who promises to take the Intercontinental title from Jeff Jarrett for his Latin American people. Basic baby face stuff. But yeah, fifth Savio match in two days. Oy.

Man Mountain Rock (with that sweet WWF guitar) taking on Phil Apollo. Apollo tries a slam, but can't lift Man Mountain Rock. MMR  hits a belly to belly and a headbutt. Apollo tries to avoid a splash in the corner, but MMR catches him and lands a body slam. Arm bar (called the Whammy Bar) gets the win in another super fast  Man Mountain Rock squash.

King Mabel is in action next against Kenny Kendall. Mabel being carried on a sedan (I do not envy the men carrying him.

Thankfully it goes better for Mabel than it did for Lawler.

Mabel chokes Kendall and throws him in the corner. He rams Kendall a couple times and then lands some boots, yelling "bow to the king boy!" Hard whips to the buckle and a wheel kick that barely looked like it hit the back of Kendall's head. Shawn mocking Mo, saying he never knew he could read. Mabel tosses Kendall over the top rope with ease and whips him ribs first into the steps. Kendall tries to fight back with some strikes, but gets caught in a belly to belly, getting the win for King Mabel. Okay enough squash, nothing amazing. Mabel is starting to get his character well.

Waylon Mercy is atop a lifeguard's chair. Because much like the people at the pool, when it comes to the WWF superstars, lives are gonna be in Waylon Mercy's hands. Waylon makes his Raw debut next week.

It's our main event of the evening. Double J Jeff Jarrett defending against Savio Vega. But the bigger news is that finally, after almost two years, Jeff Jarrett's musical debut will premiere on Superstars. It's the music video "With My Baby Tonight."

The Roadie tries a sneak attack early, but Vega catches it, only to be attacked by Jarrett. Savio reverses a whip and lands a hiptoss following with a ram to the buckle. He avoids some boots by Jarrett and lands some chops off the second buckle. Cover only gets a two. Jarrett pulls Savio in the buckle and lands some strikes. Savio reverses a whip and lands a clothesline and some chops. Jarrett reverses a whip, but gets caught in a slam by Savio, who follows with some punches. He goes back for the Roadie as Jarrett accidentally knocks the Roadie down. Jarrett gets clotheslines out of the ring.

When we return from break, the Roadie gets another cheap shot on Savio, allowing Jarrett to hit some offense, including a swinging neckbreaker. Vertical suplex and a cover only gets Jarrett a two count. Jarrett distracts the ref, once again allowing the Roadie to get a sneak attack in. Jarrett tries to drop his leg on the draped Savio, but misses, catching the rope to the groin. Savio lands a back suplex, taking both men down. Savio lands some right hands and a urinage (half chokeslam, half rock bottom).

Savio tries to get the advantage again, only for the Roadie to grab his leg. Savio kicks the Roadie into Shawn Michaels, which starts an issue between the two of them. While Earl Hebner tries to get rid of the Roadie, Shawn Michaels lands some cheap shots on Jarrett and throws him back into the ring.  Savio rolls up Jarrett, but the Roadie gets in and clotheslines Savio. Shawn comes in and cleans house on Jarrett and the Roadie as Savio joins in, sending the heels in retreat.

Overall, an okay match. Definitely a lot more energetic than I had expected. Savio looked really good, and as usual, Jarrett was decent in the ring. But the MVP was easily the Roadie, whose heel antics on the outside remain the most entertaining thing about Jarrett's match. Not amazing, but still an okay main event.

Post-match, Shawn is dancing on the announce table, too cheers and the occasional shot of a somewhat bored crowd. Jarrett and the Roadie come back out to ringside and cut a promo, but the show comes to an end right there.

Overall, a pretty basic edition of Raw. None of the squashes were amazing, but they were fast and effective enough in getting who needed to get over over. Savio vs Double J was decent, and I do have some interest in the debuting Waylon Mercy and Isaac Yankem D.D.S. But other than that, nothing really worth coming back to. A fair rating is a C+ for this episode.
