Rapidly Reviewing Sonic SatAM Episode 9: Harmonic Sonic

We open once again at Robotropolis as robots are being led into a space shuttle.  Robotnik's sky spy satelite, his latest plan in trying to find Knothole Village. However, Robotnik's not exactly as stealthy as he thought as one of the rocket boosters crashes near the village, awakening the freedom fighters. They learn of the spy ship and devise a plan to use the booster to aid them in getting rid of it.

Using a power ring, Sonic and Rotor charge the booster while Sally and Antoine try to decipher what's going on in the sky spy. Meanwhile, Snively and Robotnik use one of their spy bots to find Knothole. However, the stealth bot is dumb enough to get caught by a charged beam from Sonic and Rotor, which destroys it immediately. With that out of the way, all that's left is the satelite.  Sonic and Rotor board the booster as it launches  to the satellite. However, they didn't calculate on the fact that there's nowhere to land.

They manage to find a slot where they manage a bumpy landing. They enter the satellite and search for the main sensore. However, they quickly get caught by a surveillance bot, which alerts them to Robotnik. Robotnik sends the rest of the bots to chase the duo down.

Sonic defeats some sort of weird tentacle alien bot. They see a bunch of robots entering what appears to be a bar (I guess we've already got a death star, so why not a cantina?). Disguised as a robot (mainly just covered in paint cans) Sonic shows up and tries his heavy metal magic. But it turns out that he's pretty terrible. He starts a fight with the band bot and manages to trick it into telling him about the location of the spy sensors. However, he gets revealed as the robots corner him.

Sonic and Rotor make it to the spy sensor, managing to easily best a particularly dumb bot. They easily destroy the sensor, which stops the stealth bots, much to the happiness of Sally and the anger of Robotnik. Back on the satelite, things are getting hectic as the place is starting to blow. Sonic and Rotor steal one of Robotnik's ships and head home. However, the trip back is a bit bumpier than expected.

With the Sky Spy set to blow, it could mean a big problem for Knothole if it landed close to them. Using Rotor's giant magnet, they manage to pull it closer to the middle of nowhere. Robotnik is still quite angry and is more than ready to kill Snively. And we end the episode with Sally thanking Sonic and Rotor. Rotor builds Sonic a new quill styler to help with his frizz.

Doesn't pan out too well.

Harmonic Sonic is probably the densest episode so far. To the point that there really isn't much to talk about. The pace of the episode feels really fast. So fast that there's not much in terms of memorable moments or things to really discuss. The episode does feel very Star Wars inspired with the death star-like Sky Spy Satellite, the cantina scene, and even a scene similar to Vader throwing the emperor to his death. I also like that Rotor gets a big role in an episode, as to this point he seems like a very forgettable character, so seeing him use his genius to fix the problem was great. Hell, even Antoine was more useful than normal in this episode, there's an unexpected positive.

On the negative, I don't care too much for seeing Robotnik revert back to being less hands on as he was in previous episodes. His whole role in this episode was just sitting around being evil. Also, Harmonic Sonic might be the worst title yet as it feels like it has the least to do with the episode.  While not perfect, and perhaps a bit too quick feeling for its own good, Harmonic Sonic is still a fun episode as we reach the near conclusion of season 1.
